What is MSTR®

McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release

MSTR® is a gentle, non-invasive technique developed specifically for working with scar tissue. It was created by Alastair McLoughlin and is practised by a small number of certified practitioners worldwide. Cherry is one of very few certified MSTR® practitioners in New Zealand.

Scar tissue forms whenever the body heals from surgery, injury, burns or trauma. While scars are a normal part of healing, they can sometimes restrict movement, compress nerves, impede blood flow, or contribute to discomfort that extends well beyond the scar site itself. MSTR® works gently with the scar and the surrounding tissue to release these restrictions and support the body to restore its natural movement and function.

The technique is applied very lightly. There is no deep pressure, no pain, and no need to remove clothing beyond exposing the scar site. Scars of any age can be worked with, including long-standing scars that have been present for many years.

A NOTE ON SCAR TISSUE

Scars affect more than the surface

Scar tissue does not behave like normal skin. It can adhere to underlying structures, restrict fascia, and create compensatory patterns throughout the body that show up as pain, tightness or reduced movement far from the original injury site.

MSTR® addresses these deeper effects gently and respectfully, working with your body rather than against it. Many clients notice changes in how they move, how they feel, and how they relate to their scar after just one or two sessions.
